Things to consider when moving with a pet<\/h1>\n

Moving with an animal entails a fair share of difficulties. Our pets are very attached to their homes and their environments. So finding themselves in an unfamiliar place can subject them to a significant amount of stress.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, there are ways to ease the transition and minimize their anxiety levels. Keep reading to find out how to enjoy a seamless move with your pet!<\/span><\/p>\n

Make your preparations ahead of time<\/h2>\n

Nothing is more stressful for your pet than when you wait until the last minute to organize your move. Make your preparations in advance to prevent any unforeseen circumstances! The secret is to avoid changes in the animal\u2019s routine. Maintain the same schedule for feedings and walks and give it the same amount of attention, pets, playtime and brushing as usual.<\/span><\/p>\n

Familiarize your dog with its new environment<\/h2>\n

Are you moving nearby<\/a>? If you own a dog, you might want to take it to its future home so it can start breaking in its new environment. Give it some time to discover its surroundings and walk with it to help it get its bearings.<\/span><\/p>\n

For big moves, it\u2019s advisable to kennel your dog for a few days. In the case of your cat, while you\u2019re coming and going, you can minimize its stress by keeping it in a quiet room of the house away from all the activity. Leave its litterbox, food, water, toys and bed nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve arrived at your new home<\/h2>\n

Finally! You\u2019re officially moved into your new home. Even though the bulk of the move has been completed, the adjustment period for your animal is just beginning!<\/span><\/p>\n

To help your pet adapt to its new environment as easily as possible, leave some familiar objects nearby. Re-establishing its daily routine will help reassure it and reduce its anxiety levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re moving into a large home, leave your cat in a closed room for two or three days with all the necessities (but make sure you don\u2019t ignore it!). This will give you time to unpack your boxes and move your furniture. Once the heavy lifting and loud noises are over, let it explore its new home.
